How do I set up Windows desktop so that I can access all my shared drives using Ftp?
Highlight a file, select Copy from the menu. Then go to the folder where you want to create shortcut. Click on the bottom window to activate it. Make sure there is no selected item because you cannot paste to a selected item. (Selected item has blue highlight. The highlighted item in the top window should be gray.) Select Paste Shortcut from the menu. A file with extension .lnk is created. That is the shortcut file. You can double click on the shortcut to lauch it, or rename the file to whatever you prefer. But you have to keep the .lnk extension name intact.
To add PE to start program menu, run PE first using built-in file explorer. Create a shortcut pe.lnk for pe.exe in \windows\Start Menu\Programs folder as PE.lnk. Go to Setting, Menus. Check PE. Now you will see PE when you click on the start menu.
PE is capable of multiple file operations. In Options, make sure that single select is not checked in list. Then use the control key on the keyboard or ENTER button on your PDA (it is the same button when you do multiple selection in builtin file explorer). On iPaq, just hold down the wheel button and select the files.
Hightlight a file (for example, abc.puz) that you like to associate, select Associate from the File menu, fill in the executable file right under action buttons (for example, \windows\puzzle.exe). Check Always associate with this type of files. Then click on Associate button. A message box will appear if .puz is successfully associated with puzzle.exe.

Just click on the file name header, files will be sorted in ascending order. Click one more time, files will be sorted in descending order. You can also sort files based on date and size.
You can find files using * (match any characters) or ? (match single character). You can also specify the various attributes and date. By default, it will find all the files and folder with any attributes.
Select File/Map Network Drive. See the screen shot for a sample. Any network SHARE NAME can be mapped. If you have a slow network connection or want to speed up, Slow Network Connection can be checked. The + sign on the folder will always be displayed in Slow Network Connection even if there is no subfolder underneath.
Currently you can only map one network drive at the time. It will probably be too cluttered for the small screen if more than one drive mappings are shown. If there is enough demand, multiple network drive mapping at the same time might be supported. Personally I never feel the need for it.
To enter Product Key and help save a few typing, you can type in the Product ID and Product Key in a Word document. Then pull up the little keyboard, type CTRL-c to copy. Then go to About box, type CTRL-v to paste to the Product Key. Note that both the Product ID and Product Key is CASE SENSITIVE. There are also some mnemonics to help you identify the letters or digits correctly when you got the Product Key from Vieka. If product key is not entered properly or not valid, a message "License is not valid" will appear.
If you reinstall your hand held device, Product ID and Product Key you received can be reused. You don't need a new product key every time you reinstall your hand held device. Enter BOTH the Product ID and the Product Key.

By default, PE Ftp Explorer uses standard FTP port 23. If you need to change this default port number, use this format: server:port.

You can also check option "Apply to all selected items". This will save your current preference.
For maximum protection of your data, Vieka recommends the use of the first method. After you obtain the encrypted file, try to decrypt the encrypted file by selecting File/Decrypt. Then open the decrypted file and make sure that it is the same as the original. You may delete the original file at this point if you decide to do so.

To decrypt a file, e.g. key.enc, PE Encrypt provides a default output file name key.dec. You can also check option "Save output as original" to save the decrypted file as the original file.
You can also check option "Apply to all selected items". This will save your current preference.

On Win95/98/Me, you need to download a Ftp server. Here is a link to a free
Ftp server.
