Working with zip file
Introduction
PE Explorer Series include a powerful, intuitive and innovative zip file explorer for Pocket PC. If you know how to use file explorer on your Windows desktop, you know how to use
PE Explorer Series. Why unzip the files when you can just simply explore
them ?!
PE Zip integrates seamlessly with file explorer. It presents the
zip file in a natural tree structure just like Windows desktop explorer.
With PE
Zip, extracting files or folders from zip archive or adding files or
folders to zip archive is just two simple clicks away. To extract all
the files, just select the zip file, do a copy or paste. It is that simple!
PE Zip allows you to create, rename, delete, extract, add files
or folders with ease.
PE Zip also allows you to view the properties of a folder in the
zip file.
With PE
Zip, you can also test the integrity of a file inside
the zip file.
PE Zip, you can
modify the comment of a zip file, and files inside the zip file.
You can double click in an application in the zip file to run it, or you can double click in a file in the zip file to modify it. And
PE Zip can update the zip file automatically if any changes occur.
To open and mount a zip file

Double click on the zip file. An icon for the zip file will be created on
the tree Window indicating that the zip file has been mounted.

To open a file or folder in zip file
- Double click the file or folder to open.
Notes

If the file you want to open is not associated with a particular program,
you can associate a program with the file. See Associate
File Type.

To open a file on Windows mapped network drive, PE Net
downloads the file to
\Temp on your handheld, and open the file from \Temp folder directly. The
file is NOT opened on Windows mapped network drive. This is very convenient for quickly
viewing the files on Windows mapped network drive.

You can specify the option to update the zip file
automatically if the file opened for editing is modified.

To run a program in zip file
- Double click the file you want to run directly.
To extract files or folders from zip file
- Select the file or folder you want to copy or move inside the mounted zip
archive.
- On the Edit menu, click Copy. Or, click Cut to move
the item. In the following example, we are trying to extract a file
\My Documents\Templates\Memo.psw inside the zip archive \ppc300.zip to
\My Documents\Doc\Memo.psw.

- Browse to the folder
where you want to copy or move the item.
- On the Edit menu, click Paste.

Notes
- To extract all files from zip file, select the mounted zip
file. Then do a Copy and Paste operations.
- To select consecutive files or folders to copy or move, click the first
item, press and hold down SHIFT in the small keyboard, and then click
the last item.
- To select files or folders that are not consecutive, press and hold down CTRL
in the small keyboard, and then click each item. In Pocket PC, hold the Action Button.
To add files or folders to zip file
- Select the file or folder you want to copy or move.
- On the Edit menu, click Copy. Or, click Cut to move
the item. In the following example, we are trying to add a file
\My Documents\Doc\Memo.psw to the zip archive \ppc300.zip as
\My Documents\Templates\Memo.psw.

- Browse to the folder
where you want to copy or move the item inside the mounted zip
archive.
- On the Edit menu, click Paste.
Notes
- To select consecutive files or folders to copy or move, click the first
item, press and hold down SHIFT in the small keyboard, and then click
the last item.
- To select files or folders that are not consecutive, press and hold down CTRL
in the small keyboard, and then click each item. In Pocket PC, hold the Action Button.
To change the name of a file or folder in zip file
- Select the file or folder you want to rename.
- On the Edit menu, click Rename.
- Type the new name.

Notes
- You do not need to open the file or folder to rename it.
- File names cannot contain the
following characters:
\ / : * ? " < > |
- You can also rename a file or folder by right-clicking it and then
clicking Rename.
- You can also select the file or folder first, then tap on the selected
file or folder again. Type the new name.
To delete a file or folder in zip file
- Select the file or folder you want to delete.
- On the Edit menu, click Delete.

- You can also delete files or folders by right-clicking the file or folder
and then clicking Delete.
- To select consecutive files or folders to copy or move, click the first
item, press and hold down SHIFT, and then click the last item.
- To select files or folders that are not consecutive, press and hold down CTRL, and then click each item. In Pocket PC, hold the Action Button.
To view or edit properties
You can view or edit the properties of files or folders inside the mounted
zip archive. You can also view or edit the properties of the mounted zip
archive.
To view properties of files or folders
in zip file
- Select the file or folder, click the Edit menu, click Properties.
- Depending on the file or folder selected, different screens will be
displayed.
- The following is a screenshot of properties of folder /windows inside zip
archive /ppc300.zip.

/windows/inbox.htm
inside the zip archive /ppc300.zip.

- To test the integrity of the compressed
file, just click on the button Test. A dialog box will show the
result of the testing.

- To view or edit the comment on this
file, click on the button Comment.

- Click button OK after editing to save the changes, or click button Cancel
to discard the changes.
To view properties of zip file
- Select the mounted zip archive, click the Edit menu, click Properties.
- The following is a screenshot of properties of the mounted zip archive
/ppc300.zip.

- To view or edit the comment on this
mounted zip file, click on the button Comment.

- Click button OK after editing to save the changes, or click button Cancel
to discard the changes.

- You can also right-click a file or folder and then click Properties.
To test file integrity
- Select the file, click the Edit menu, click Properties.
