Managing files on Windows Network
Introduction
PE Net is the only explorer with the ability to browse and manage your Windows network resource.
Together with PE Ftp, PE Net will fulfill all your file management needs, whether they reside locally,
remotely on Ftp server or remotely on your Windows network.
With the built-in Windows network capability, PE Net brings you the standard Windows network resource browsing and managing capabilities that you are accustomed to on the Windows desktop machine.
PE Net allows you easy access to your corporate Windows networks and transfer files between these network resources and your handheld device.
PE Net operates the same way on local handheld device and
remote Windows network share resources.
With PE Net, you can:
Transfer a whole directory tree with two simple clicks.
Delete a whole directory.
Transfer multiple files or folders.
View or edit
the properties of files on Windows network.
Rename files
or folders on Windows network.
Browse your whole corporate
Windows network and shared resources.
To map a network drive

Click on menu File, point to Map Network Drive, the
following screen is shown, allow you to add a Network session. This
is the same screen when clicking on menu View, pointing to Options,
click on tab Net. See Net Options.

Session: Name of this Network session.
Server: Shared network drive server name.
Share: Windows network share name.
User Name: User name to login.
Domain: Enter the domain that the server belongs to.
Password: Password to login.
Save Password: Check the option if you want to save the password.
Slow Network Connection: Speed up the display of folder tree
by always showing a + sign by the folder
Note
- If you usually map Windows network drive in the form of \\server_name\share_name
on your Windows desktop, then enter server_name in Server and
enter share_name in Share without any backslashes.
- If you usually enter the user name in the form of domain_name\user_name
on your Windows desktop, then enter user_name in User Name and
enter domain_name in Domain without any backslashes
- You can click on the button ... to browse the entire corporate windows
network and the network share resources so that you don't have to enter the
network share resource information above manually. If there is no network session
in used, the following screen will appear prompting for the authentication
information. You can just enter your authentication information of your Windows
desktop.
- The following screen is a sample of a small network and network share
resources. Select the network share resource you want to map, click button OK,
the information needed for mapping the network share resource are filled
automatically.
To open a file or folder on Windows network shares
- Double click the file or folder to open.

If the file you want to open is not associated with a particular program,
you can associate a program with the file. See Associate
File Type.

To open a file on Windows mapped network drive, PE Net
downloads the file to
\Temp on your handheld, and open the file from \Temp folder directly. The
file is NOT opened on Windows mapped network drive. This is very convenient for quickly
viewing the files on Windows mapped network drive.
To run a program on Windows network shares
- Double click the file you want to run directly.
To create a new folder on Windows network shares
- Click the folder in which you want to create a new folder.
- On the Edit menu, point to New Folder.
- Type a name for the new folder.

- You can also create a new folder by right-clicking a blank area in the
explorer, pointing to New Folder.
To create a new file on Windows network shares
- Click the folder in which you want to create a new file.
- On the Edit menu, point to New File.
- Type a name for the new file.

To copy or move a file or folder from Windows network shares
- Select the file or folder you want to copy or move on Windows network shares.
- On the Edit menu, click Copy. Or, click Cut to move
the item.
- Browse to the folder
where you want to copy or move the item.
- On the Edit menu, click Paste.
Notes
- To select consecutive files or folders to copy or move, click the first
item, press and hold down SHIFT in the small keyboard, and then click
the last item.
- To select files or folders that are not consecutive, press and hold down CTRL
in the small keyboard, and then click each item. In Pocket PC, hold the Action Button.
To copy or move a file or folder to Windows network shares
- Select the file or folder you want to copy or move.
- On the Edit menu, click Copy. Or, click Cut to move

- Browse to the folder on Windows network shares
where you want to copy or move the item.
- On the Edit menu, click Paste.

To change the name of a file or folder on Windows network shares
- Select the file or folder you want to rename.
- On the Edit menu, click Rename.
- Type the new name.

Notes
- You do not need to open the file or folder to rename it.
- File names cannot contain the
following characters:
\ / : * ? " < > |
- You can also rename a file or folder by right-clicking it and then
clicking Rename.
- You can also select the file or folder first, then tap on the selected
file or folder again. Type the new name.
To delete a file or folder on Windows network shares
- Select the file or folder you want to delete.
- On the Edit menu, click Delete.
Notes
- You can also delete files or folders by right-clicking the file or folder
and then clicking Delete.
- To select consecutive files or folders to copy or move, click the first
item, press and hold down SHIFT, and then click the last item.
- To select files or folders that are not consecutive, press and hold down CTRL, and then click each item. In Pocket PC, hold the Action Button.
To view or change file or folder properties on Windows network shares
- Select the file or folder on Windows network shares, click the Edit menu, click Properties.
- Depending on the file or folder selected, different screens will be
displayed.

Notes
- You can also right-click a file or folder and then click Properties.
