Using Ftp

Introduction

PE Ftp adds standard Ftp capabilities and eliminates the hassle of memorizing all the arcane commands. Now the remote file transferring and exploring of Ftp server on any platform, whether it is Unix, Windows, Workstation or Main Frame is just a few clicks away! 

PE Ftp operates the same way on local handheld device and remote Ftp server.

With PE Ftp, you can:

Configure Proxy Server, non-standard Ftp Port number and Ftp Base Path. 
Transfer a whole directory tree with two simple clicks. 
Delete a whole directory. 
Transfer multiple files or folders. 
View or edit the properties of files on Windows network. 
Rename files or folders on Windows network. 
Browse your Ftp server resource no matter what platforms they are and no matter where they are.

To connect to a Ftp server

  1. Click on menu File, point to Add Ftp Server, the following screen is shown, allow you to add a Ftp session. This is the same screen when clicking on menu View, pointing to Options, click on tab Ftp. See Ftp Options


  2. Session: Name of this Ftp session.
    Server Name: Name of Ftp server. 
    User Name: User name to login.
    Password: Password to login.
    Proxy: If your Pocket PC is behind a proxy server or firewall, enter the proxy server here.
    Base Path: Enter the base path in which you want to start browsing.
    Save Password: Check the option if you want to save the password.
    Slow Ftp Connection: Speed up the display of folder tree by always showing a + sign by the folder

Note: If you want to use non-standard Ftp port number, enter Server Name using the format server:port as the following.


To open a file or folder on Ftp server

  1. Double click the file or folder to open.

  1. Double click the file you want to run.

To create a new folder on Ftp server

  1. Click the folder in which you want to create a new folder on Ftp server.
  2. On the Edit menu, point to New Folder.
  3. Type a name for the new folder.

       

Note

To copy or move a file or folder from Ftp server

  1. Select the file or folder you want to copy or move on Ftp server.
  2. On the Edit menu, click Copy. Or, click Cut to move the item.
  3. Browse to the folder where you want to copy or move the item.
  4. On the Edit menu, click Paste.

To copy or move a file or folder to Ftp server

  1. Select the file or folder you want to copy or move.
  2. On the Edit menu, click Copy. Or, click Cut to move the item.
  3. Browse to the folder on Ftp server where you want to copy or move the item.
  4. On the Edit menu, click Paste.

To change the name of a file or folder on Ftp server

  1. Select the file or folder you want to rename on Ftp server.
  2. On the Edit menu, click Rename.
  3. Type the new name.

To delete a file or folder on Ftp server

  1. Select the file or folder you want to delete on Ftp server.
  2. On the Edit menu, click Delete.

To view file or folder properties on Ftp server

  1. Select the file or folder on Ftp server, click the Edit menu, click Properties.
  2. Depending on the file or folder selected, different screens will be displayed.
